Collective Genius
Collective Genius is your chance to come and meet other people within the community who are interested in the things you are, at an informal and friendly monthly get together we're calling 'Collective Genius' inhonour of all the talent that's out there amongst you all.
It's a chance to catch up with friends, meet new people interested in helping our community thrive, and maybe even to share those exciting ideas you've had for improving the way we all live but haven't had the chance to get off the ground yet.
These are exciting times and we’d like you all to be part of them!
Collective Genius occurs on the last Monday of every month and changes venue from month to month - check out the calendar of upcoming events for details of our latest meeting.

New boy...!
Looking to help / get info on all things allotment / gardening - I have a house in Marsden & one up in Meltham & have tried (unsuccessfully) for 6 years to get an allotment - anyone got any ideas??
I spoke to the council regarding Marsden, Slawit & a few other ones on the way in to town - I'm fairly certain the guy I spoke to lauged AT me when I asked about Marsden & then just said a flat 'no'... The rest he said had 15 - 25 year waiting lists.
I spoke to the Parish council regarding Meltham & got a similar response, something along the lines of "there are 23 people on the waiting list...we give a plot out every couple of years...you might have a bit of a wait..."!! :)
I want an allotment so that I can show my twin boys (and any more that come along!) that you don't have to buy everything in plastic & that you can do your bit to stop the rot (of the planet), the problem I have currently is that they are 2 years old & don't listen to my shouts of 'get off my potato patch' and my wife is sick of the myriad of plants I have growing on every windowsill in the house... I have everything from peas to peanuts & grapes to pawpaw fruit growing at the mo, not to mention all of the 'normal' fruits & veg.
I've looked in to buying a plot of land but most can't be used for what I want (It's acceptable to ask for permission to pour a ton of concrete on a plot & build a house but the mere suggestion of growing some potatoes & onions seems to have them panicking...!) & I really don't need 7 acres which seems to be the smallet plot I've found so far.
Cheers

I love the idea of the clothes swap and think that maybe it could be opened up more.
it relies on people bringing something but it is also a great evening out (well tiff is the hostess who know how to run a event)
I haven't managed to get there as I dropped mine off at the charity shop and missed the evening.
maybe you could connect with the local charity shops?
also when you have a clothes swap let people know they can still come and maybe offer clothes to sell (maybe things from the charity shop?)
The Blog and Facebook
I just noticed that there were a whole load of blog entries showing down the lhs of the web page, clicking on each one takes you to that individual entry - not the whole blog. There is no Blog link at the top of the page. It took me a while to see that the entry point was under my account details - not appropriate since it's not "my" blog. Could a blog link be put at the top of the page next to the discussion forum? How is the blog different from the discussion forum? Hmmmmm What is the blog for? Usually they are for a different audience and sit separately but given the amount of activity on the website, why have both? I have my own blogs and I don't quite see why I would blog here when there is a discussion forum. It begs lots of questions also about how to get out to a broader and younger audience. Does Mastt have a facebook group, does it want one? if not, why not? if so, can I set it up? Interested in all your views. Fiona
