allotments
i've just found out from the council info centre in marsden that allotments will not be happening on the old railway goods yard.
apperently council architects went to the goods yard and decided that it won't be suitable, mainly that the surface of the yard might be contaminated as its been used as a tip and i suppose from the goods yard itself in the past.
i'd imagine that its a money decision , areas get cleaned up when they're in far worse states, the ex. soil could be graded off and replaced with new top soil bounght in from elsewhere.
i'll try and chase down the full report from the council.

That's such a shame, well done for finding all that information out. I look forward to seeing the report - perhaps we could find an aspect in it that we could argue against.
It gives more justification for guerilla gardening though!
Well how about raised beds? Seems like a silly reason to say no.
If i had time for an allotment i would be tempted to get a few like minded people together and set some raised beds up there anyway. Once established i doubt very much if they could get rid of us!
