Tips and Tricks - Energy Saving

The Facts

25% of all UK co2 emissions come from energy used in the home.

An energy saving light bulb will use 75% less electricity than standard models and will last up to 10 times longer.

When an electrical appliance such as a TV or washing machine is on standby, it still consumes 85% of the energy it uses when switched on.

* Switch off lights in empty rooms

* Regularly defrost your freezer

* Dry clothes outside or on a clothes horse inside

* Use solar powered chargers eg mobile phone charger

* Buy only energy efficient electrical products

If anyone has any tips on how people can save energy please post them up, many people will find them useful

I've just had a letter through from Yorkshire Water which advises people to go to www.yorkshirewater.com/do-one-thing to get a free flushsaver for old toilet cisterns.  They reduce water waste by approx. 1 litre per flush, which is not bad is it?

I have a couple of spare "Hippos" if anyone can make use of it?

Hippo = flushsaver.

if you don't have a hippo to put in your cistern , you could resort to putting a brick or a piece of stone in there instead.

its just a case of decreasing the amount of water held in the cistern.

An alternative to this method is to fill a plastic bottle with pebbles and put it in your cistern!
