Guerrilla Gardening
http://www.guerrillagardening.org/
Great to meet so many lovely people at the screening of the Cuba film tonight. We were discussing the possibility of guerrilla gardening; here is a link. I walked home with my guerrilla gardening radar on and spotted quite a few potential spots - around the station (both sides), opposite the Wharfside. Just next to the wharfside there's a tiny triangle which could def be planted with nastrutiums. Our front garden is a cliff face which could be put to better use -blueberries? The hill top park and the section at the end of the park next to the old people's home..... hey, I wonder if the old people's home would welcome some guerrilla gardeners? Rowan was interested. Any other takers? F

There been talk about this over the past year and if we get enough people interested then there is scope for us to do something like this in the Spring/Summer 2010.
If anyone is interested please do get in touch (info@mastt.org.uk)
I'm wondering if there's any scope in contacting Kirklees with this as a legit plan..... There is heaps of land available around the swimming pool and loads of places around the village - the park up here at hill top, next to the Moonraker on the other side of the canal where the sculpture and bench are etc. ARound the station too there are possibilities. Todmorden is planning on being self sufficient in veg by 2020. There is every possibility that Slaithwaite could be too..... what a thought.
We approached Kirklees a while back about the scope for using some land up near the railway but we were told that it MIGHT BE contaminated (nothing to prove it is). Perhaps you could find out what Incredible Edible Tod did to overcome the issues - i think we should just go for it! That's the whole point in it being called Guerilla Gardening - you don't ask anyone's permission. However, nothing can be done until we get more people on board, including people who can volunteer to look after things that are growing.
Any news about the potential to use small bits of land locally for growing? I realise this thread is old, but the issue remains current.
Can't wait for sowing! Love it when summer comes.

Beginner vegetable gardening can seem like a daunting task.
Where do you start?
First you need to decide where to plant a vegetable garden. If you have property to grow on, no problem and even if all you have is a deck or a patio, this is not really a problem either.
By far one of the best methods for beginner vegetable gardening is raised bed gardening. Raised beds are above ground level and therefore can be easily adapted to the deck or patio to grow some wonderful vegetable crops.
