The Blog and Facebook

I just noticed that there were a whole load of blog entries showing down the lhs of the web page, clicking on each one takes you to that individual entry - not the whole blog.  There is no Blog link at the top of the page.  It took me a while to see that the entry point was under my account details - not appropriate since it's not "my" blog.  Could a blog link be put at the top of the page next to the discussion forum?  How is the blog different from the discussion forum?  Hmmmmm What is the blog for?  Usually they are for a different audience and sit separately but given the amount of activity on the website, why have both?  I have my own blogs and I don't quite see why I would blog here when there is a discussion forum.  It begs lots of questions also about how to get out to a broader and younger audience.  Does Mastt have a facebook group, does it want one?  if not, why not? if so, can I set it up?  Interested in all your views.  Fiona

Thats a good point about having  a button on the top bar to access blogs, I'll mention that to our techie types.

We do have a Facebook group already. Its called "MASTT (Marsden and Slaithwaite Transition Towns)"

Maybe you would like to come along to one of our business meetings to bring up any points you have, we meet on the 2nd Tuesday at the Commercial pub in Slawit at 7.30, we use a room upstairs, drinks can be taken up inc coffee. Also we meet in Marsden at the New Inn on the last Monday of the month from 7.30 onwards, this is a social event. We'd be happy to meet you at either venue.

I've aded a main menu link that lists all blog entries in reverse chronological order (i.e. as one would expect). I've also removed the link to the blogs listing page form the user navigation menu (it was there as an historical leftover),

The difference between a blog post and forum post? I'd say it's hordes for course, really - whatever floats your boat. I would say the blog function on this site is for people associated with MASTT to let of steam, have a ramble, post up some opinion, etc. that is relevant to the business in hand, but not 'official' MASTT policy.

The forums are - as one might expect - designed for discussion, although I can see that they are also being used for the publication of information, where that might be more usefully located elsewhere on the site.

If you don't want to blog here that's fine. If people know of useful external resources, such as relevant blogs, etc., we can always pick them up via RSS syndication.

We're doing some development on the site at the moment, that will better integrate the site with the Facebook page and also with Twitter, as well providing a more general tidy up of things. It's an ongoing process - and the site will no doubt continue to change and develop over time as more and different people get involved.

Just in case anyone happens to read this and hasn't found the facebook group, it's here:

We can now be found on Twitter - look for us as mastt_uk

Hi Tiff, is it fully registered?  I got the message

We couldn't find anyone named mastt_uk.

when I looked for it.  (I didn't have the . at the end of uk, the system has added that).  Cheers F

I've now added a "follow us" button so that make it easier.
