Pea Shoots
Yep tonights pressing issue is about pea shoots.
A couple ofweeks I watched a lady called Alys Fowler on TV presenting a gardening programme about making an edible garden.
In that programme there was a bit about growing pea shoots.
Now I have never tried pea shoots, but our Chris says they are really good to eat.
So anyhow, Alys took a handful of marrowfat peas from a box that she brounght from a supermarket, nothing fancy there you see, and she simply scattered a veryliberal amount of siad peas into a box. She said they'd happily grow abd provide her with plenty of young pea shoots to add to her salads.
I was impressed about this concept, I like a simple idea that works. However after the peas hadn't show their little shoots to me above ground, I dug around under the surface of the soil and discoved that the peas simply hadn't sprouted yet, this was a few days ago, well maybe 5 days ago.
So I came up with the simple idea to soak the marrowfat peas in water like we do for the mung beans that provide us and the chickens with piles of bean sprouts. So I have soaked and sprouted the peas for about 5 days and now they are showing little sprouting shoots.
Yeah it works, so I suppose its fairly obvious that the peas being extremely dry, like you'd imagine, the best way to start a bed of lovely pea shootsoff is to soak the peas 1st and then plant them ,which is what I have just donetoday and I'd bet that the soaked peas sprout above ground before the unsoaked ones do.
Now we have 3, yep, 3 low boxes containing peas so soon we'll also have plenty of shoots.
I'll look forward to eating some and then telling you my opinion of how they taste.
If you follow my leader and do plant out some peas like this, I can only say------enjoy.
My ongoing gardening adventure is a real learning experience. I'm enjoying what I'm doing and it stimulates my brain a lot to see what works in the garden.
Enjoy.

Ah Pip, I mis-read the title to this blog. I thought you were going to talk about pea shooters. While the pea shoots sound yummy I was prepared for a giggle about you shooting peas through a straw to gain someone's attention.
As if I'd shoot peas at the lovely people !
