Photos from MASTT's Community Orchard

As it's been a lovely sunny day today, I decided to go along to our Community Orchard to check how the trees were doing. Thanks to our super duper technology I've uploaded some photos for you to check out. Many of the trees have fruit on, mmmm. I think it will be another year or two before they will start producing a better amount of fruit.

On my way up to the orchard I walked past quite a few fruit trees (mainly cherry and apple) which will be a great start to our Local Food Map that we are starting to create. I'll have to retrace my steps so I know where exactly the trees are to plot them on our google map. Further details about this project to follow soon.

It was nice and peaceful up at the orchard (despite being attacked by flies and being stung by something - I don't think nature likes my pale legs being out in public!). I can't wait for the trees to be ready for us to open the orchard up to the public. Our first official event in the orchard will be a picnic as part of the Colne Valley Food Festival in September 2011 - keep your eyes peeled to the website for further information. But before this fantastic event we will have to do some clearing as the weeds are knee high and some of the protection around the trees needs fixing back in place.

Ah, you've got to love the summer.

Thanks for reading my post.

Tiff :-)
